Frost is a mid-century furniture shop located on Bellenden Rd. Peckham curated by Mark Frost. When the project started it was an empty shop in serious need of renovation. My duties first began aiding with the renovations, picking out colour schemes as well as designing and painting the shop facade. As the renovation moved along I began my work on the brand identity and signage. Being involved with the initial building work was a key part of my design process, enabling me to work closely with the client. Each day gaining a greater understanding of who he was and of the vision he had for his business.
The brief for the logo was to create something simple yet beautiful that communicated Mark’s passion for everything Mid-century. My process began by collecting images of mid-century furniture and looking to some of my design heros from that era for inspiration such as Charles & Ray Eame’s, Bertoia and Cadovious.
After playing around with many ideas I came across an image of the “Z chair’s” side profile. Immediately seeing the letter “R” I began exploring ways I could integrate it in to the logo until I developed the chosen design. The full word-mark seen here is designed to be used at a large scale on the shop facade, printed assets and the website. Furthermore The “R” functions perfectly on it’s own forming a symbol. Being displayed in smaller windows such as profile pictures and badges. This is a logo that I’m very proud of and thoroughly enjoyed designing, which is appreciated by many of the customers who are welcomed in to the shop each day.
