TAPROOM BY BRIXTON VILLAGE

Sign Painting / Type Design

Year: 2019

Brixton is a vibrant destination, abundant with culture and a rich history. “Taproom” were in need of a new sign, desiring something hand-crafted that would sit well in the busy backdrop of Brixton Village. The starting point of this project was to examine Brixton’s heritage and devise a subtle, visual nod towards the wind-rush generation. A hand drawn logotype was created inspired by the painted sign displayed on the face of the Empire Windrush.

The signs were painted by hand using “one shot” sign writing paint, printed out to the required scale with white chalk rubbed on the underside. Allowing the typography to be positioned correctly and traced over, leaving an accurate chalk impression of the letterfroms.
